Cannes Brule was the name the French from New Orleans named the city of Kenner after they saw the Native Americans burn the sugar cane fields to scare away wild animals.
William Kenner was from Virginia, of Scottish and Irish parents, and his 4 sons bought land in what now is Kenner and built their plantations.
Philip Minor Kenner, William Butler Kenner, George Rappele Kenner, and Duncan Farrar Kenner bought the Oakland, Belle Grove, and Pasture Plantations.
The city was founded in 1855 and the map of the land was finished March 2nd, the date that is now considered the birthday of the city of Kenner and then known as Kennerville.
Back in 1682, Robert Cavalier Sir de la LaSalle stopped in Kenner and that is where it first touched land in the now New Orleans Metro Area.
Since its founding until today, Kenner has lost the status of the city once. In 1913, it received the status of the villa, a year later it received the status of town, and it wasn’t until 1952 that it was classified as a city.
From 1915 to 1931 there was a streetcar that operated from Rampart Street to Williams Boulevard and Jefferson Highway.
The city was chosen to be the site for the Moisant airport in 1940, now called the Louis Armstrong international airport.
The construction of the Interstate 10 in 1970 sealed Kenner’s suburban development to becoming Louisiana’s 6th largest city.
The biggest tragedy that happened in the city occurred when a Pan Am plane crashed in 1982, killing the 145 passengers and 9 people in their homes.
The city is located between the Mississippi River and Pontchartrain Lake, which has several lakes and a strong economy.
The history of Kenner is just a small part of the rich culture we have here in Louisiana.

Los franceses que llegaron a Nueva Orleans llamaron a Kenner, Cannes Brulee, después de ver a los nativos americanos quemar caña de azúcar para espantar a los animales salvajes.
Fueron 4 hermanos, hijos de William Kenner quien era de Virginia y de padres escoceses e irlandeses, los que compraron terrenos y construyeron sus plantaciones en el territorio que ahora es la ciudad de Kenner.
